I wonder if what I went through is much different than what everyone else went through, with few exceptions. A couple people sprinted out of work that day, but everything else I can imagine was the same as everywhere. I got an email from Matt, that's how I found out it happened. At that point nothing had fallen. Work was crazy, since I'm so close there are people who's spouses worked there, so we were all worried. But in the days following, you'd see kids sitting in circles at the mall with candles, people being nicer... we crossed the Tappan Zee Bridge that weekend on our way to MA and you can see the skyline way in the distance, that was really surreal... smoky. I never got down to a closer waterfront to get a closer look. A few months later (December maybe?) we went down there and looked around as best we could. Lots of people, just looking. I thanked a cop. I didn't know anyone personally, but I knew people who knew people - a kid I graduated high school with lost his brother (his name was Chris Traina, he was a few years older than us) and my sister's friend in college lost her brother (if you've heard of "The Man in the Red Bandana" that was him). |
